Memory vs. Custom Instructions
Unlike Custom Instructions, the Memory feature does not consume your context window. This means you can have much longer conversations without the AI 'forgetting' or losing focus on the initial instructions.
Manual Review Required (Trial & Error)
ChatGPT might occasionally misinterpret your intent (for example, assuming you want to promote a product when you only want to save specs). Always check your memory entries to ensure the accuracy of technical data.
Ideal for Long-Term Projects
This feature is highly effective when working on large projects that span across multiple chat sessions or require extended focus over several hours.

Prompt to Save Technical Details

ChatGPT
Save all the technical details and specifications from this image to your memory for my future reference in other chats.
Step by Step
How to Save Technical Specifications to ChatGPT Memory
- Open ChatGPT and ensure you are using a model that supports the Memory feature (typically GPT-4 or the latest version).
- Upload the document or image containing the technical specifications using the Paperclip icon.
- Type a prompt instructing ChatGPT to save the information, for example: 'Save all the technical details from this image to your memory'.
- Look for the 'Memory updated' notification that appears at the top of the chat after sending your prompt.
- Click on the 'Memory updated' notification or go to Settings > Personalization > Memory to view the saved entries.
- Verify the stored information; if ChatGPT misinterprets the data, provide a correction prompt to update the memory entry with the correct facts.
- Start a New Chat and try asking questions related to that information to ensure ChatGPT 'remembers' it without needing to re-input the data.
