The 'Word Document' Editing Paradigm
Descript's main advantage is its ability to treat video like a text document. If you know how to delete sentences in Microsoft Word, you already know how to edit videos using this AI.
Automating YouTube Timestamps
Use the 'Create Timestamps' feature to save time spent manually writing down key video moments. The AI analyzes the conversation topics and provides relevant segment titles for your YouTube description.
Estimated Usage Costs
Descript costs around $30 per 'seat' (account). While it's a paid tool, it offers great value for video-centric teams because the workflow is significantly faster than traditional software.
Step by Step
Text-Based Video Editing Workflow with Descript
- Open the Descript app and create a new 'Project'.
- Import or drag your video file into the 'Script' panel.
- Wait for the AI to automatically process the 'Transcription', converting the video audio into text.
- Highlight the words or sentences you want to remove from the video directly within the text view.
- Press the 'Backspace' or 'Delete' key on your keyboard; Descript will automatically cut those video scenes based on the deleted text.
- Click on the AI Actions menu (usually a star icon or 'Underlord') to find the 'Remove Filler Words' function.
- Select 'Apply to all' to remove filler words like 'um', 'uh', and 'ah' from the entire video in a single click.
- Locate and click the 'Create Timestamps' button to let the AI generate a list of timestamps for each major segment of your video.
- Click the 'Publish' button in the top right corner, then select the 'Export' tab to download your final edited video.
