Step by Step
How to Add Sources to NotebookLM
- Visit the NotebookLM website (notebooklm.google.com).
- Click the 'New Notebook' button (plus icon) to start a new project.
- Choose your document source via the 'Sources' options: Google Drive, PDF, Text File, or paste a website URL.
- Click 'Upload' or 'Add' after selecting your files to process the documents into the AI system.
- Wait for the loading process to complete until the documents appear in the 'Sources' panel on the left.
How to Generate an 'Audio Overview' (AI Podcast)
- Click on the 'Notebook Guide' section located in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Locate the 'Audio Overview' box in the panel that appears.
- Click the 'Generate' button to begin the automatic audio creation process.
- Wait for the AI to process content from all your sources (this may take 1-3 minutes).
- Click 'Play' to listen to two AI hosts discussing your notes.
- Select 'Download' (three dots icon) if you wish to save the audio file in .wav format.
Interacting with Notes via AI Chat
- Click the 'Chat' box or 'Ask a question about your sources' at the bottom.
- Type a specific question about your notes (e.g., 'Summarize the main points from this PDF file').
- Press 'Enter' and watch the AI refer to specific citations to answer your query.
- Click on the citation numbers within the AI's response to view the original excerpt from the source document.
Converting Notes into Quizzes or FAQs
- Open the 'Notebook Guide' in the bottom-right corner.
- Select your preferred output format such as 'Study Guide', 'FAQ', or 'Table of Contents'.
- The AI will automatically generate a new document based on your selection.
- Use the 'Study Guide' to generate Short Answer Questions to test your understanding.
