Agent Permissions Requirement
The 'Allow edits' feature is critical. Without enabling this setting, the AI will only provide text responses in the chat window rather than physically creating pages, databases, and task lists within your workspace.
Context Retrieval Capability
You do not need to manually copy-paste background information into the prompt. The Notion AI Agent allows you to reference existing directories, and it will scan your workspace to pull relevant context automatically.
Model Selection
While the default setting is 'Auto', you can manually select specific AI models (like GPT-4 or Claude) via the model dropdown menu in the AI interface if you prefer a specific reasoning engine for complex planning.

Step by Step
Automating Project Creation with Notion AI Agent
- Open the Notion AI interface (click the sparkles icon or press the designated keyboard shortcut, typically spacebar or Cmd+J).
- Type a comprehensive prompt defining the location, project name, and required sections (see Prompt card for details).
- Locate the configuration options below the text input field.
- Ensure the 'Allow edits' option is toggled ON to permit the AI to generate and modify actual pages.
- Verify that 'Web search' is toggled OFF if you want the agent to rely solely on internal directory data.
- Click the arrow/send button to submit the prompt.
- Wait for the AI Agent to generate its internal 'Plan' and execute the steps (this runs in the background).
- Review the notification or chat summary when the Agent displays 'All set'.
- Click the link provided by the Agent to navigate to the newly created Project Page.
- Review the generated overview, goals, timeline, and assigned tasks.
- If adjustments are needed, type follow-up instructions into the AI chat sidebar to refine the existing page.
