The Importance of Visual Contrast
Objects with high contrast against the background (e.g., a white ball on black pants) are much easier for AI to detect compared to objects with colors or lighting (Luma/Chroma) that blend into their surroundings.
AI Morphing Capabilities
The SAM 2 model is exceptionally powerful because it can maintain tracking even if an object drastically changes shape or appearance (morphing) within the video, such as a cat transforming into a zebra.
Handling Object Occlusion
Be careful when other objects pass in front of the object being tracked. This occlusion (blocking) can cause the mask to break or become inaccurate in the final result.
Step by Step
How to Use the SAM 2 Demo for Video Masking
- Open the live Segment Anything 2 (SAM 2) demo website in your web browser.
- Click the 'Accept' button on the terms and conditions prompt to access the demo interface.
- Select an existing video from the demo gallery or click the 'Upload' button to upload your own video file from your device.
- Wait for the video processing to complete before starting your AI editing session.
- Click on the object you want to select within the video frame to create an initial mask. The AI will automatically detect the boundaries of the object.
- If the mask doesn't cover the entire object (especially if Luma or Chroma contrast is low), simply add more clicks to the missing areas to refine the AI's selection.
- Click the 'Track' button to command the AI to track the object's movement throughout the entire video clip.
- Once the tracking process is finished, click 'Next' to proceed to the visual effects section.
- Choose your desired visual effect from the menu: click 'Emoji' to transform the object into an icon, 'Censor' to blur the object, or 'Green Screen' to remove the video background.
