Understanding Claude's 3 Memory Levels
Claude operates on three distinct memory levels: (1) Conversation Memory - remembers only within a single chat session; (2) Project-specific Memory - instructions that persist across all chats within a specific project; (3) Global Memory - information that follows you everywhere across all conversations in your account.
Memory Transparency and Control
Claude doesn't store information in secret. You can review your 'Memory' list at any time in the Settings to ensure the AI isn't keeping sensitive data or outdated instructions.

I prefer short paragraphs with no bullet points and I always want code examples in Python. Never use headers in short responses.

How to Manage and Edit Claude's Memory
- Open the 'Settings' menu and navigate to the 'Capabilities' section.
- Click on the 'Memory' option to view a complete list of all information stored by Claude.
- To remove incorrect or irrelevant information, click the 'Delete' icon or the delete option on that specific memory entry.
- To manually add permanent instructions, type the new instruction (e.g., writing style or code format) into the provided input field.
- Confirm the addition so Claude can apply it immediately to all future conversations.
Setting Up Project-Specific Memory
- Open an existing 'Project' or create a new one in Claude.
- Access the project description section or update instructions directly within the project chat.
- Enter specific instructions (such as 'Always use Python for code examples') into the project description.
- Claude will automatically save this information as 'Project Memory'.
- Start a new chat within the same project to see Claude applying those instructions without being prompted again.
