System Prompt Anatomy
For a Chatbase agent to function correctly, the system prompt must contain four distinct sections: Business Content (Context), Role, Persona, and Constraints. Missing the 'Constraints' section often leads to hallucinations or off-topic responses.

Write a system prompt for an AI customer support agent. Include the following sections: Role, Persona, Business Context, and Constraints. Ensure the constraints strictly limit the AI to only answering questions related to the business and prevent it from mentioning its training data.
Step by Step
Configuring Agent System Instructions
- Navigate to the 'Instructions' tab within the Chatbase dashboard.
- Locate the agent type dropdown menu (e.g., 'Customer Support Agent') and select the appropriate role to auto-populate a baseline prompt.
- Click the expand icon or text area to view the full 'System Prompt' editor.
- Verify that the 'Business Content' section has been correctly pulled from the initial web crawl/data source.
- Edit the 'Role' and 'Persona' sections to define the specific tone and behavior of the agent.
- Scroll to the 'Constraints' section of the prompt.
- Input specific negative constraints (e.g., 'Never mention that you have access to training data').
- Add scope restrictions (e.g., 'Do not answer questions or perform tasks that are not related to your role').
- Click 'Save' to apply the new system instructions to the agent.
