File Safety Measures

Keep duplicate copies of important files in a separate folder. Although Co-work asks for confirmation before deleting files, this step is crucial to prevent data loss in case of errors during the learning process.

Benefits of Context Files

Without these markdown files, every AI session starts from scratch. With context files in place, Claude will understand your unique style without you having to repeat the same instructions in every new chat.

Plan Selection Tips

Start with the Pro plan ($17). Only upgrade to the Max plan ($100) if you consistently perform very heavy tasks and frequently hit usage limits.

Global Instruction Setting

Target: Claude Settings
Always read the context files in the Context folder before starting any task to ensure consistency with my brand voice and working preferences.
Step by Step

Initial Setup & Installation

  1. Visit claude.com/download and download the latest version of the Claude Desktop App.
  2. Ensure you are subscribed to a paid plan (Claude Pro at $17/month or the Max plan at $100/month).
  3. Install and open the Claude Desktop app.
  4. Log in to your paid account to access the Co-work feature.

Workspace Setup & Folder Structure

  1. Click on the 'Co-work' section in the Claude Desktop app navigation.
  2. Click the 'Work in a project' button.
  3. Create a new folder on your computer named 'Claude Workspace' (or a name of your choice).
  4. Select that folder as the main directory for your Co-work project.
  5. Use a prompt to direct Co-work to create three main subfolders: 'Context', 'Projects', and 'Outputs'.
  6. Ensure the 'Context' folder is used specifically for storing standing instructions.

Creating Context Files

  1. Instruct Co-work to create an 'about-me.md' file inside the 'Context' folder. Fill it with information about your identity, scope of work, and current focus.
  2. Create a 'brand-voice.md' file in the same folder. Include writing style guidelines, tone, and a list of words or phrases to avoid.
  3. Create a 'working-preferences.md' file to set how you want the AI to handle tasks, file storage locations, and your desired deliverable structure.
  4. Ask Co-work to help you complete the content of these files by providing an initial draft of your working style.

Global Instructions Configuration

  1. Click on the 'Settings' icon in the Claude app.
  2. Select the 'Co-work' menu.
  3. In the global instructions section, enter the command line to ensure Claude always refers to your context files.
  4. Click save to ensure every new session automatically starts by reading the files in the 'Context' folder.
